Let’s get into the details. RocketVPN is a virtual private network service designed to provide users with secure and unrestricted internet access. The service is operated by Xenex Networks LLC, a company based in Wilmington, Delaware, USA.

RocketVPN offers a network of 10 (at least for now) servers across various countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Canada, Estonia, India, Hong Kong, the USA, and Singapore. This global presence allows users to bypass geo-restrictions and access content from different regions. The network, unfortunately, is quite small, especially compared to other VPN providers.

We found their website not very informative, and we couldn’t reach crucial information. In example, nowhere can you see the exact encryption ciphers they use – a big no no! Their prices also do not come cheap at all – not very alluring, given the lack of important features.

How Easy Is It to Use?

The service is relatively easy to use and set up with clear  guides for Windows, MacOS, Android, IOS and routers. This, however is not enough. Not so tech-savvy users should know there is some manual setup required. RocketVPN has no native apps – there is a third-party app for Windows only. If you want to use it on your phone (be it Android or IOS), get ready to read a lot and watch videos. The good part is RocketVPN offers router support, which kind of gives it a plus.

  • How About Speed?

RocketVPN offers a mixed performance profile when it comes to speed, with results varying significantly based on server location and distance.

In independent tests, RocketVPN’s did fine – not exceptional. Speed tests showed that connections to nearby servers, such as those in the UK, yielded download speeds of approximately 32.12 Mbps on a 60 Mbps base connection. Connections to US servers provided around 20.43 Mbps, while more distant servers, like those in Hong Kong, resulted in speeds of about 4.22 Mbps.

It’s important to note that RocketVPN’s performance is generally sufficient for everyday tasks like browsing and some streaming, especially when connected to nearby servers. However, users with high-speed internet connections may notice a more significant speed reduction, particularly when connecting to distant servers.

Can You Trust RocketVPN?

In terms of privacy, RocketVPN claims to implement a strict no-logs policy, stating that it does not keep any logs and has no possibility to provide them upon request to any third party. Additionally, the service offers features like dynamic anonymous IP addresses from a pool of over 4,000, aiming to enhance user anonymity.

Sounds good, but – the service hasn’t undergone any independent audits, and the company behind it (Xenex Networks LLC) is relatively unknown, with limited transparency. Also, being based in the U.S., it falls under a jurisdiction that could require data disclosure. While fine for casual use, it may not meet the standards of privacy-focused users.

Furthermore, the service is using some not so good or deprecated protocols – PPTP and L2TP. Definitely, not a good practice.

Can you stream with RocketVPN? Yes. Is it good? No. RocketVPN offers access to a range of international servers, making it possible to bypass basic geo-restrictions on some streaming platforms. However, its performance for streaming is inconsistent. It managed to unblock Netflix US library and that’s it – no Prime Video, no HBO, no Disney+. The speed is okay, no buffering, but with so many limitations – what’s the point?

Is Torrenting Allowed?

RocketVPN does allow torrenting on its network, but it’s not particularly optimized for it. The lack of advanced P2P features like port forwarding, dedicated torrent servers, or SOCKS5 support may result in slower speeds and a less stable experience. Additionally, RocketVPN’s no-logs policy is promising on paper, but the absence of an independent audit might raise concerns for users who torrent and want guaranteed anonymity. Furthermore, users are greeted with a message warning them of the risks of downloading and distributing a torrent. RocketVPN clearly states that this may lead to legal actions and you’re on your own – they will supply the data (we thought they didn’t log, huh?)

Support is hit or miss – there is a live chat option with decent performance. Additionally, you can contact them via email – this is significantly slower. You won’t find any knowledge base or FAQ section on their website, besides a few setup tutorials. So, if you get stuck – get ready to wait for a solution.

RocketVPN might be worth it if you’re a beginner or casual user who needs a basic VPN for occasional private browsing, simple streaming, or securing public Wi-Fi connections, especially at its discounted yearly rate. However, if you’re looking for high-speed performance, verified privacy protections, or advanced VPN features, you may find better value in slightly more expensive but more robust competitors.

Its limited streaming access, and absence of independently verified privacy measures mean it’s not ideal for heavy streamers, torrenters, or privacy-focused users. Additionally, the lack of advanced features may leave more experienced users wanting more.

Overall, RocketVPN is best suited to those looking for a lightweight VPN for simple online privacy. Just don’t expect premium performance or full-featured protection.
